Veterinary Assistant Program w/ a Clinical Externship

This 100 hour Veterinary Assistant program introduces students to the exciting and growing field of veterinary medicine. Students will learn about the care of animals as well as how to recognize signs of illness and disease. This program also covers interpersonal communication, interaction with clients and their animals, as well as how to assist the veterinarian during examinations. Administrative duties, such as fee collection, banking, and accounts payable are also emphasized to provide the student with the skills necessary to maintain an efficient front office.  Students will enjoy learning through classroom lecture as well as hands on labs.

 

Clinical Externship: As part of this Veterinary Assistant program, you will be eligible to participate in a 40 hour clinical externship.

 

NWCA National Certification:  This program meets the necessary requirements to take the National Workforce Career Association (NWCA) Veterinary Assistant (VET) Exam.

Please read:  Prereqs: You must be at least 18 years of age, have a high school diploma, its equivalent or a higher degree; have documentation . You must have the ability to read, write and accurately communicate in English, basic computer skills and an email account. You must have documentation of the Silver Level achievement on the ACT’s National Readiness Certificate (also known as WorkKeys exams). This is a portable credential that demonstrates a level of workplace employability skills in applied mathematics, locating information and reading for information that adds merit to your resume. If you have an associates degree or higher, you may submit official or unofficial transcripts in lieu of taking the WorkKeys exams. If you are a Michigan licensed social worker or nurse, you may provide your license number in an email in lieu of your degree documents. All documents should be submitted for department review to workforce-development@wccnet.edu two weeks before the class start date.
