Motorcycle Safety: Basic Rider Course One Weekend 6/18 - 6/20/21 Friday evening, Saturday & Sunday afternoons

CourseGraphic If you have never ridden a motorcycle, this class will teach you how and help you become licensed. You'll learn mental and physical skills for riding on public roads. You'll ride two-wheeled manual-shift-and-clutch motorcycles provided by WCC on our riding range.

This Basic Rider Course has a mandatory on-line eCourse pre-course assignment which must be completed by you before the start of your class.  The eCourse must be taken on-line.  The eCourse will require a minimum of 3 hours to complete. 

A link to the eCourse will be emailed to all students registered for this Basic Rider Course at least 1 week before the class start date.  If you register within 1 week of the class start date then the link will be emailed within 24 hours or on Monday if you register during the weekend. The link will be emailed to the email address that you provide when you create your WCC profile.  It is your responsibility to monitor your email account for the email containing the link. 

After completing the eCourse, print your eCourse completion certificate. Bring your eCourse completion certificate to the first class session.  You will not be allowed in class if you do not have your eCourse completion certificate, and no refund will be given or class transfer made.

Attendance and successful completion

If you’re tardy, you will not be allowed in class.
You must complete the online pre-course assignment, print the completion certificate and bring it to the first class session, attend all class sessions, and pass all written and riding skills tests to successfully complete the class.

Required Equipment, Supplies and Identification

Students must provide the following equipment, supplies and identification:
• Face mask or cloth face covering.  *See Covid-19 Mitigation section below for additional requirements.
• Driver license
• Ink pen to write with during all class sessions.
• A long-sleeved shirt and long pants, No holes, rips, tears, etc. Shirts must cover wrists while seated in the riding position.  Pants must reach the top of boots while seated in the riding position. No gap between bottom of shirt and top of pant while seated in the riding position.
• Sturdy over-the-ankle boots. No soft soled boots or shoes.  Socks should extend above the tops of boots.
• Full-fingered gloves. Sturdy leather or heavy-duty textile.  No rubber, latex, plastic medical type gloves.
• Eye protection – required even with helmet face shield.  Goggles, safety glasses, eyeglasses are acceptable.  Sunglasses are acceptable during bright sunlight only.
• A motorcycle helmet approved by the U.S. Department of Transportation. Helmet must be in good condition and appropriately fitted. Loaner helmets are not available.
• Cold weather and wet weather riding gear.
• Bottled water or non-alcoholic beverage if desired.

The instructor’s decision on the acceptability of student-provided equipment is final
 
COVID-19 Mitigation:
  • All students will complete the Motorcycle Safety Foundation’s LIABILITY WAIVER AND GENERAL RELEASE RELATING TO CORONAVIRUS/COVID-19 before their class each day and give it to their instructor at the start of the class session.  A parent or legal guardian of a student younger than 18 years must sign the form each day.
  • All students will complete WCC’s health screen procedure before the start of their class each day and show the proof of successful screening to their instructor at the start of their class session.  Plan to arrive on campus well before the start time for your class session to complete the health screening.  Arriving late at the start of your class session because of the time needed to complete your health screening is being tardy. See the Attendance and Successful Completion section above.
  • All parents and legal guardians who come to campus to sign Covid and liability waivers for students must complete WCC’s health screen procedure before going to the classroom or riding area on campus.
  • All students will wear a face mask or cloth face covering while on campus; before, during, and after their class session, while indoors and outdoors including the parking lots and riding range.  A face mask or cloth face covering must fully cover the wearer’s nose and mouth and be close fitting and securely fastened.  A face shield not an acceptable substitute for a face mask or cloth face covering. Students who do not comply may be dismissed from their class and no refund will be given.
  • Persons who are unable to wear a face mask or cloth face covering while on campus may request an COVID-19 Face Covering Medical Exemption from WCC:  https://www.wccnet.edu/succeed/disability/  If a COVID-19 Face Covering Medical Exemption is granted, then the student must comply fully with the terms of the exemption.  Allow several weeks for processing a Face Covering Medical Exemption Request.  Any student who does not have a WCC approved Face Covering Medical Exemption are required to wear a face mask or cloth face covering as noted above.
All students will maintain at least 6-foot distance between themselves and other people while on campus; before, during, and after their class session, while indoors and outdoors including the parking lots and riding range.  There are no exceptions for people from the same household or similar circumstances.  Students who do not comply may be dismissed from their class and no refund will be given.

Notice

Please read:  Mandatory on-line eCourse pre-course assignment must be completed before start of class. Must be at least 15 years old and have a driver's license. Students ride manual transmission motorcycles provided by WCC. You must be able to ride a bicycle, to balance and support a two-wheeled motorcycle, and operate manual hand and foot controls for shifting and braking. You must sign a liability waiver. If you're under 18, a parent or guardian must sign the liability waiver in person at the start of the class. You must pass the Basic Rider Course knowledge and riding skills tests to successfully complete this class. The Michigan Secretary of State's office waives its requirement for rider testing if you successfully complete this class.
