CourseGraphic If you have never ridden a motorcycle, this class will teach you how. You'll learn the mental and physical skills needed to ride on public roads and become licensed. You'll ride two-wheeled manual-shift-and-clutch motorcycles provided by WCC on our riding range.

This Basic Rider Course has a mandatory on-line eCourse pre-course assignment which must be completed by you before the start of your class.  The eCourse must be taken on-line.  The eCourse will require a minimum of 3 hours to complete. 

A link to the eCourse will be emailed to all students registered for this Basic Rider Course at least 1 week before the class start date.  If you register within 1 week of the class start date then the link will be emailed within 24 hours or on Monday if you register during the weekend. The link will be emailed to the email address that you provide when you create your WCC profile.  It is your responsibility to monitor your email account for the email containing the link. 

After completing the eCourse, print your eCourse completion certificate. Bring your eCourse completion certificate to the first class session.  You will not be allowed in class if you do not have your eCourse completion certificate, and no refund will be given or class transfer made.

Attendance and successful completion

If you’re tardy, you will not be allowed in class. You must complete the online pre-course assignment, print the completion certificate and bring it to the first class sessions, attend all class sessions, and pass all written and riding skills tests to successfully complete the class.

Required Equipment

Students must provide the following equipment:


  • A long-sleeved shirt and long pants
  • Sturdy over-the-ankle boots
  • Full-fingered gloves
  • Eye protection
  • A motorcycle helmet approved by the U.S. Department of Transportation. Some loaner helmets are available.The instructor’s decision on the acceptability of student-provided equipment is final.

Please read:  Mandatory on-line eCourse pre-course assignment must be completed before start of class. Must be at least 15 years old and have a driver's license. Students ride manual transmission motorcycles provided by WCC. You must be able to ride a bicycle, to balance and support a two-wheeled motorcycle, and operate manual hand and foot controls for shifting and braking. You must sign a liability waiver. If you're under 18, a parent or guardian must sign the liability waiver at the start of the class. You must pass the Basic Rider Course knowledge and riding skills tests to successfully complete this class. The Michigan Secretary of State's office waives its requirement for rider testing if you successfully complete this class.
