ID : 45232
« back to classes page
If you are an experienced but unlicensed rider that wants to become endorsed and practice your street riding skills while riding your own street licensed bike, this class is for you.  Passing this one-day class will make you eligible to get a cycle endorsement on your Michigan driver license.

Experienced, licensed riders can use this class as a skills refresher.

The Intermediate Rider License Waiver class (IRLW) is Michigan’s version of the Motorcycle Safety Foundation’s Basic Rider Course 2 (BRC2). It replaces the Returning Rider Course in 2025.

Eligibility
  • Must be at least 15 years old with a valid stage 1 or higher driver license. Note: a rider must have a stage 2 or higher licensed to become endorsed in Michigan.
  • Must be an experienced rider with good basic riding skills, starting, stopping, shifting and turning, on the bike that you will ride in class. Your basic riding skills will be evaluated by the instructor during the first 2 range exercises. You will not be allowed to continue in the range exercises if you do not demonstrate adequate basic riding skills and no refund will be given or transfer made.
  • Must provide a street legal, licensed and insured two-wheeled motorcycle. A two-wheeled scooter that is licensed by the State of Michigan as a motorcycle is acceptable. Scooters and cycles licensed by the State as mo-peds are not acceptable. See the Motorcycles section below for additional information.
Motorcycles
You must provide your own street legal, licensed, two-wheeled motorcycle and show registration and proof of insurance. If the motorcycle isn’t registered in your name, you must have the owner’s written permission to ride the motorcycle in this class. Each student must provide a motorcycle. Students may not share a motorcycle in this class. WCC does not provide a motorcycle for a student to ride in this class.

Motorcycles must be in good condition to be ridden in this class, including good tires with proper inflation, running well, and with an adequate battery and fuel to get through the class.  No refund will be given or transfer made if the instructor determines that the motorcycle is in poor condition or if it becomes unsafe or non-functional during class.

Pre-Course Assignment
This class has a mandatory on-line eCourse pre-course assignment which must be learned and completed by you before the start of your class.  The eCourse must be taken on-line.  The MSF eP1 eCourse requires at least 5 hours to complete, although 6-8 hours is typical. Learn the information in the eCourse. Knowing it will help you in this class and while riding. The information in the eCourse will be tested during the knowledge test.

A link to the eCourse will be emailed to all students registered for this class at least 6 days before the class start date.  If you register within 6 days of the class start date then the link will be emailed within 36 hours or on Monday if you register during the weekend. The link will be emailed to the email address that you provide when you create your WCC profile.  It is your responsibility to monitor your email account for the email containing the link.  If you have not found the email in your email account within 4 days before the start of your class, contact WCC.

After completing the eCourse, print your eCourse completion certificate on 8 1/2" x 11” paper. Bring your printed eCourse completion certificate to the first class session to give to the instructor.  You will not be allowed in class if you do not have your printed eCourse completion certificate, and no refund will be given or class transfer made. We will not accept viewing your completion certificate on a digital device. A paper copy of your completion certificate is required.

Liability Waiver

You will sign the class liability waiver at the start of the class.

If you are under 18, your parent or legal guardian MUST come to the start of the class to sign the liability waiver in person. If your parent or legal guardian does not come to the start of the class to sign the waiver then you will not be allowed in class and no refund will be given or class transfer made.  It is your responsibility, if you are less than 18 years old, to verify that your parent or legal guardian is available to come to the start of the class to sign the liability waiver in person.  We recommend that you verify this before you register for a class.

Attendance and successful completion
The Michigan Secretary of State's office waives their requirements for riding skill and knowledge testing if you successfully complete this class.

You must complete and learn the online pre-course assignments, print the eCourse completion certificate on 8 1/2" x 11" paper, and bring the printed certificate to the start of the class to give to the instructor, attend all class lessons and exercises, and pass the written knowledge test and the riding skills test to successfully complete the class.  If you do not do all these things, then you cannot successfully complete, pass, the class.  Some students do not successfully complete their class.

You must be in the classroom at the class start time. If you truck or trailer your motorcycle to WCC, it should be unloaded before the class starts.  Bring whatever ramps, tie-downs and help that you need to unload and load and secure your motorcycle into your truck or trailer

If you arrive at your class after the class start time, or are not ready to begin class activities at the class start time, you will not be allowed in class that day and no refund will be given or class transfer made.

Contacting WCC to tell us that you will be late to class does not change the requirement to be in the classroom and ready to begin class activities at the class start time.

If the instructor determines that you are not making adequate progress in the class, due to not demonstrating adequate skills development, failing the knowledge test, or other reasons, or become a hazard to yourself or others, then your class participation may be ended and no refund will be given or class transfer made.

If you do not have acceptable student provided equipment worn properly at the start of a riding session, then you will not be allowed to ride, and no refund will be given or class transfer made.
